Like the world-famous mythologies of Greece and Egypt, the Philippines has its own collection of interesting ancient myths that, even though not thoroughly documented, still lived on because of religious oral tradition. Philippine mythology portrays similar elements as other popular mythologies. It has a wide selection of creation stories, pantheon of gods and goddesses, heroes of epic battles, and of course monsters of all shapes and sizes. In fact, because the Philippines is an archipelago, ancient myths have become so diverse that each region has their own versions of tales learned from their forefathers. This is a Filipino creation myth that originates from the Visayan region of the Philippines.
