Filipinos have always carried a baffling fascination for the supernatural. They, especially the young generations, grew up hearing scary tales of the "pugot na pari" who would roam the cemeteries at night or the white lady who would appear in front of the mirror if you stayed up so late at night. The classic book series Philippine Ghost Stories might have also been one of your precious possessions!
The school grounds did not escape such tales and if you would ask students, it seems that every school campus has their own taste of supernatural and paranormal phenomena. This article is a continuation of the post on the most haunted schools in the Philippines.
#1 De La Salle University

Perhaps one of the most famous schools for campus ghost stories is De La Salle University. The old buildings in the school grounds have witnessed countless tragedies during World War II and so almost all buildings are believed to have their own resident ghosts.
The spookiest-looking place in DLSU is probably the St. La Salle Hall (LS), the oldest building in the campus, where students would hear murmuring sounds along the corridors. Another feared-upon area is the Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament, located inside the LS. Ironically, students have experienced some paranormal encounters inside this place of worship. It is believed to have a resident ghost soldier from the Japanese era.
One story involves an accounting student who went there to pray for an important exam. As she was saying her prayers, she heard footsteps fast approaching in her direction and then the footsteps suddenly halted. Curious, she opened her eyes to take a look. To her horror, she saw a bloodied soldier in front of her, touching her face and begging for help!
#2 Miriam College

Some buildings of Miriam College were used as a military base and a makeshift hospital in World War II. Because of this, ghost hauntings persevere in the vicinity until today. Visitors should specially watch out if they have to go to restrooms in the building. They say that whenever you feel something tapping your head or your shoulder, don't ever look up if you don't want to see a ghost of a hanged woman creepily staring back!
Doppelganger activities also persist within the campus. One famous story is about three female students who played a prank on another student inside the girl's restroom. When a girl went inside the toilet cubicle, the three pranksters locked the door and stayed outside the door quietly. The girl inside the cubicle tried to open the door but to no avail. Scared, she started to cry. Thinking that the joke has gone too far, the three pranksters decided to finally open the door. To their surprise, there was no one inside. They ran outside and then saw the girl whom they played a prank on standing on the veranda. They approached her and asked her how she managed to go outside the toilet cubicle without them noticing. She then said, "I was here all this time." #3 College of St. Benilde ![]()

The College of St. Benilde of De La Salle University deserves a separate post because of the popular ghost stories that even students of other schools are aware of.
A well-known ghost tale from this college is about a professor's roll call. During the first day of the school year, a professor was routinely doing a roll call of the students in the classroom. When he finished calling all the names in the list, he noticed that only one student was not called: a girl sitting just in front of the professor's desk.
Thinking that the girl was in the wrong room, he asked for the student's enrollment form. The girl just stared back blankly at the professor. Then, she stood up and walk directly in front of the class and through the blackboard!
The students here are told to be wary when entering the restrooms, particularly those on the second and third floors of the Benilde Hall. They tend to avoid using these rooms if possible. However, if you really need to go and use these restrooms, remember to avoid using the first cubicle. The students and faculties would say that a ghost of a girl shows up in that cubicle. #4 Ateneo De Manila University ![]()

They say that one of the most spooky places in Ateneo De Manila University is the old Communication Department building. Every student knows this fact and would avoid roaming the halls after classes.
People with "gifts" had reportedly saw the ghost of a mother and a child who would walk up to the second floor through the creak wooden stairs or sometimes along the corridors. On the second floor, the motion-censored cameras seem to detect the presence something moving even if no one is around. They believe that the cameras seem to detect a ghost of a Jesuit priest.
Some people even say that this building is a portal to another dimension where spirits can enter to our world.
Any Ateneans would like to comment on this? 5. University of the Philippines ![]()

The University of the Philippines has its fair share of ghost stories that students continued to whisper around. When you ask a UP student where is the scariest place on campus, they will probably include Benitez Hall in the list.
The Benitez hall is one of the oldest building of the school and so students and faculties seem to associate a dark atmosphere to these school grounds especially at dusk. Even the caretakers have reported seeing a ghost with blood red eyes who roams and knocks on the door of some rooms. The Kalayaan Hall, a residential area for freshmen students, is also a place of paranormal activities. Rumor has it that a ghost of a female student roams the area. They say that a freshman student was raped and died at a secluded grassy area near the Department of the Military Science. the lifeless body was found a day later. The creepy thing was that the Kalayaan resident assistant at that time claimed that she saw and scolded that same girl because she was going to her room while leaving a trail of water in the hallway. Because the girl just ignored her, she followed her to her room but found no one. Do you have other scary ghost stories to tell? Write to us here. Sources: ABS-CBN News. (2017, October 23).
