Universities and school campuses are oftentimes the home of the most spine-chilling ghost stories in the Philippines that will no doubt keep you up at night. Creepy accounts from students and school staff who were believed to have experienced paranormal phenomena in the said schools can spread like wildfire and stay within (and even outside) the campuses for a long long time. Which do you think are the most haunted schools and campuses in the Philippines? Here is our list of the creepiest school settings according to student tales. 1. St. Paul's University ![]() St. Paul's University (Credit: finduniversity.ph) Perhaps one of the most common horror stories we have heard is the white lady appearing in front of the school mirrors of St. Paul's University. Well, anyone would be horrified to see that, but St. Paul's staff have taken extreme measures to avoid this paranormal encounter. At St. Paul's campus, the restrooms do not have any mirrors in them, although there were signs in the walls that mirrors used to hang there and were later on removed. Rumors tell that a girl who committed suicide within the vicinity appears to students who look in the mirrors. Maybe the incidents were intense, prompting the management to remove the mirrors from these rooms. However, according to one student, the mirrors were put back some time in 2008 because the girl doesn't show up anymore in the restroom mirrors. Still, some say that she now sits in classrooms and even joins the flag ceremony. In fact, long-time professors and senior students would warn incoming freshmen students to avoid entering the elevators alone or going to restrooms without a company. How about that? The stories feel like one of those straight from the popular Philippine Ghost Stories book. 2. St. Pedro Poveda College The tale of Ursula is probably the most known ghost story in St. Pedro Poveda College. It is believed that Ursula was a teenager who committed suicide behind the school's chapel. Some say that she drowned herself in a well in the school's garden, while others believe that she hanged herself on a tree. Today, the students believe that the spirit of Ursula is reportedly haunting the school's garden, known as the "black garden," behind the chapel where she took her own life according to rumors. When you thread across the garden walkway, you are supposed to walk straight until you reach the other side. Never look back while walking or else Ursula will appear to you! 3. Central Philippine University The century-old campus of Central Philippine University might have been a magnet for those wandering spirits hungry for prayer or for attention. At least, this is what the people studying here believe in. Some of the buildings have survived the destructive World War 2 and later on used as school buildings today. A lot of school ghost stories in Central Philippine University are popular among both students and staff. One of the popular ghost sightings is that of a little girl with chained wrists and feet. This ghost was heard playing around the hallway of the Roblee Science Hall. There is also a lady dressed in white reportedly seen in one of the men's toilets in the Old Valentine building. Mysterious footsteps are also often heard along the ladies' dormitory stairs in Weston Hall. There were even rumors that a doppelgänger appeared in the faculty room and dormitory in the Johnson Hall. Whatever the case, students make sure not to wander off at night. 4. ADMU: Sacred Heart Novitiat The most famous campus ghost story in ADMU is about a group of students in a retreat session. While others were fast asleep, a group of students decided to explore around the area at night. When they were going down the stairs from their dorm on the third floor, they noticed that they seem to go down continuously without landing on the ground floor. The students were obviously spooked out. The creepy thing about it is that there was a scary-looking painting that they kept on seeing over and over again on each floor! 5. University of Sto. Tomas This 400-year old university is said to be home to a multitude of ghost stories and claimed paranormal sightings. No wonder because it has witnessed gruesome events as a war camp in the last World War. In fact, this school could be included in the top 10 most haunted schools in the Philippines. Some famous accounts include the Benavides Park also known as "lover's lane." A spirit of a man wearing a Dominican outfit was repeatedly seen by students and faculties roaming this area. A white lady also appears in the ladies' comfort room in the school's Main Building, where a young female student is believed to have committed suicide. Sounds of a piano and a violin were also heard from the Conservatory of Music after midnight even if no one is around. If you don't want to hear the ominous wailing of a woman, make sure to have a company when you enter the restrooms, specifically when entering Room 406.
